After studying a Music Production course here, Mark Daniel Homer has been hitting the clubs and spinning his decks as a DJ.  It sounds like he’s been very busy and here is why.

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Mark Daniel Homer. My DJ name is The MDH Projekt and I currently DJ as a full time job in Brighton and the surrounding areas.

What first inspired you to start DJing?

I would say a variety of things. My father was an inspiration as he was a mobile DJ when I was growing up. And I would also say watching music videos from the likes of Tiesto , Armin Van Buuren and Sander Van Doorn inspired me too.

What was your experience like at Dv8 Sussex?

I was 16-17 years old when I came to do a course in production and DJ skills at Dv8 for around 6 weeks. From what I remember everyone was really helpful and it first introduced me to music production. I believe we used Reason 3 back then.

Tell us about your journey after studying at Dv8 Sussex?

It’s been quite a wild ride after Dv8. I went on to study Music Production at Access To Music and gained a Level 2 Diploma. During that time I was DJing for birthdays of my friends and being booked by my local pubs in the Portslade and Hove area and grew quite a large following. After this I managed to get a residency at Ouch bar every Friday on Preston Street which led on to being spotted by other promoters and DJing for their club nights, etc. Now I have performed at every major venue in Brighton for example Coalition, Digital, Audio, Oceana, Lola Lo & Geisha.

What do you have going on at the moment?

I Currently have a residency at Synergy Bar in Brighton and have recently played at venues such as Funfair , Coalition and Oceana.  I also performed for the Shakedown festival DJ competition in which I came 2nd place. The big thing for me currently is this DJ competition in Miami called The Groove Cruise that I have entered, in which I am holding 1st place at the moment with a couple of weeks to go! If I get enough votes and win the competition I then win a free Ocean view cabin on the world famous Groove Cruise and actually spin on the Groove Cruise alongside some of the world’s top dance music artists!

What do you like to get up to in your spare time?

I like making mash ups on my PC for my DJ sets. I also spend a lot of time out clubbing and with my girlfriend who is just amazing.

What equipment do you use to DJ with?

It depends where I am but mainly it will be a pair of Pioneer CDJ2000 and a Pioneer DJM 900 Nexus.

What’s your life-long goal?

To perform at festivals worldwide such as Ultra, Tomorrowland & Creamfields.

How did you come up with your name?

The MDH Projekt. Hmmm it was a while ago now. MDH are my initials and the misspelling of Projekt was a drunken error.

What can people expect to see at a live show of yours?

A lot of crowd energy;  a DJ that doesn’t react with the crowd is not a DJ in my eyes.

What’s your favourite song?

At this moment in time I would say either Flute by New World Sound Overall, Spaceman by Hardwell or Riff by Sander Van Doorn.

If you could give one piece of advice to other aspiring artists/DJs, what would it be?

Focus on what makes you happy, don’t just take the gigs that offer the most money and most of all expect to have a hard time every now and again.
