Guy-Long-Run-Works

When our Advanced Media Production group joined the course at the end of September, they were told that after a few months they would have an amazing opportunity to work alongside an inspirational Marketing Agency on a real, live project. Today they met Guy Pattison, CEO of Long Run Works, and were introduced to What Women Want 2.0.

What is What Women Want 2.0?

Almost 20 years ago, 10,000 British women sent in postcards in response to the question “What do women want?”. This was part of a campaign backed by Anita Roddick, to share a female vision of society. This was the biggest ever collection of thoughts/views/opinions from British women in history. Back in 1996, sending out postcards seemed like the best method to collect 10,000 responses (followed by a lot of data entry!). Now we’re in a new digital era, and with the power of social media, Long Run Works hopes to re-create the simple campaign, and collect responses from over 1 million women from around the world. It’s time for What Women Want 2.0…

How are our students going to get involved?

Guy was keen to learn a little more about our students, as this would help determine their roles within the project. Some were interested in film production and editing, whilst other interests lay in animation and graphic design. There are countless amazing opportunities that WWW (What Women Want) can offer to a budding media practitioner our students will be able to proudly say they played a part in it. Now that the class has been briefed on the project they are to have a think as to what areas of the campaign best suits them, and could utilise their strengths.

With a project so ambitious, and inspiring, Long Run Works is hoping to work with a large number of well known brands to try and reach a huge demographic of women (global if possible!). Alongside our students, Long Run Works will be discussing why some brands may be better to work with than others – a nice exercise to get the group thinking about the media industry. Having heard that Danny Dyer is keen to back the campaign, students are also set the task to think of 5 male and female celebrities each that they think would be good to approach and see if they would like to support/promote WWW.

We can’t say too much on who Long Run and the Media Advanced students will be working with, but it’s extremely exciting! We’ll be keeping you updated with developments of the project throughout the year.

If you’re aged 16-18, reading this and thinking you’d love the chance to be a part of this or something similar, you could apply for our Media Production course next year. Plenty more exciting collaboration projects to come!
