Dv8 Sussex’s Key Stage 4 students in Bexhill have been working with professional graffiti artists Aaron Hosannah and Cuba. They have been developing their knowledge of the history of graffiti and hip-hop. They’ve also been educated in the whole creative process of graffiti art and hip-hop culture, including its nine elements and codes and practices whilst focusing in particular on graffiti art. Benefits included building self-esteem through encouraging self-expression, concentration and team work.

Not only did they did they learn about the history and culture of graffiti, they had a go at some themselves. The work they produced was fantastic – you can see it in the slideshow above.

Our students had this to say:

“This has been such a sick workshop”

“The more I worked on my character the better it became”

“Aaron and Cuba where great at doing the graffiti, they showed me some great skills and I am really wanting to do more!”

“Great fun, made a nice change to sitting down”
