On a (thankfully) sunny day, after spending two terms learning a variety of techniques and approaches, our Media Production students were ready to showcase work of their own creation. Concentrating on the styles of band photography and music journalism they created a startling range of images using Dv8 Sussex’s own Music Production students as their models. Considering the majority of the students came onto the course little to no prior knowledge of photography the results were both startling and astounding.
To tie-in with the music photography theme the images were innovatively made into posters and displayed as fly-posters on the wall in front of the space where the old Queen Square ice rink used to be (which is next to Dv8 Sussex’s Brighton campus). This brought some colour some colour a wall which even the most optimistic amongst us find pretty dull. There was excitement in the air (plus Jaffa Cakes and Vimto to be consumed) as parents, friends and passers by came along to admire the students’ work and the whole college came together to celebrate some amazing achievements.
The students who have created the images are all aged between 16 and 17 and have been with Dv8 Sussex since September. Our Media Production course teaches them skills in photography, filming, editing, animation and web design, preparing them for a future of working with the creative industries. With a music video and documentary film still to come from this group we can’t wait to share more of their work with you. An enormous well done and thank you to Elle, Chantelle, Ziggy, Evee, Shane, Dan, Georgie, Izzy, Kalen, Paige & Ricky for making such brilliant images and a special mention for our amazing tutors Lyndsay and Adam who inspired such great work.
