S.T.A.G.E.S the EP by Prince Dee J.r is out now and can be found here.

What was your inspiration for this EP?

My inspiration on this EP was life.

I’ve been rapping since I was 10, but what you hear on this EP are things that I’ve experienced in the last 5 years. It didn’t necessarily have to be something I had been through, it could be something that I’d seen happen to other people.

What’s your favourite track and why?

Wow, thats a hard one! All of them mean something different to me, they’re all special in their own way. I feel like a parent right now and you’re asking me who my favourite child is!

What have you enjoyed most whilst making this EP?

Living life to the fullest. If it wasn’t for the good and bad times I went through or saw other people go through, I wouldn’t have any material. The people out there co-created this EP with me.

Where and how was it recorded?

I recorded this EP over a space of 3 years, some of it in South Africa with the help of my brother, Alpha Centauri, who is featured on the EP. The rest of it was created here in the UK with the help of Sam Dook, my music mentor through Dv8 Sussex, he played a huge role in the making of this EP and I’m very grateful.

Who do you think this EP will appeal to in particular?

This EP is called S.T.A.G.E.S because I wanted to appeal to the masses. Everyone has been through different stages in life with different experiences, my main target was really that – everyone. I hope it reaches out to people that can relate to the music, all I wanted to do was shed light on things most other rappers don’t talk about and hopefully it can persuade people to push hard for their dream no matter what. We are never too old to dream – my Granddad taught me that.

Were there any major influences?

My biggest influence for this EP was the life experiences of people around me and myself. I didn’t want to address them in a very serious way, I wanted people to enjoy the music. That’s why it took so long, I had to find that special blend of mixing the two. When I did, S.T.A.G.E.S was born.

What are you working on next?

I’m definitely working on more music, I haven’t stopped writing. I’m also perfecting my skills behind the camera. This is only the beginning of many things to come.
