On2 Media Upload learners recently starred in White Night, Brighton’s much-loved annual autumn festival, with their own impressive audiovisual installation.
Thousands of people hit the streets of Brighton for this all-night festival, which a local said ‘reflects the DNA of Brighton – artistic, clever, quirky, fun and ready to stay up all night!
Dv8 learners were asked to make an installation in a shopping arcade, which they worked on with lead tutor Esther Springett during their media course. They went scavenging for audio round the city, and took field recordings from skate parks, shopping centres, Brighton Pier and more.
At White Night the festival-goers feasted their eyes and ears on the result – ‘Brighton Remixed’ – which combined films, soundscapes and big beats to reflect the learners’ feelings and aspirations around the city they live in. The project was a co-commission with the Noise Abatement Society.
One of the media group Dean said “I especially liked making the soundtrack, and I enjoyed being part of a festival. It’s inspired me to do more!”
