Dv8 Sussex is in Fashion…
Three weeks in and all our courses are off to a flying start. We can hardly get the music group out of the studio when we want to lock up the building. The Live Events students have been out to Brighton Dome and are deep into arranging our Fresh first term showcase event (Wednesday 21st October, 2pm – 4pm since you asked). Our Media students have been caught filming impromptu urban cookery shows and staging photoshoots in the hallways. But today we want to tell you about some of the amazing things going on in Fashion…
On Thursday our Fashion & Design group went out to visit the Open Market for Brighton Fashion Week’s ‘Love your clothes’ upcycling event. In amongst the piles of clothes being recycled were three Dv8 Sussex Fashion graduates – Beth, Darcy and Isabelle – who all progressed to Northbrook Level 3 Fashion course last year. They were all happily at work upcycling garments and they let us know they were getting on well. Another Dv8 Fashion graduate Mona is in the second year of her degree at Northbrook and her colleagues were enthusing about how talented she is, go Mona!
If that wasn’t enough our current students are also exceptional (obviously). One student in particular is having quite a busy week… Isaac is showing a brand new collection (not his first!) at Brighton Fashion Week and even found time to talk to the BBC about his work. You can see his interview here (he’s 19 minutes in). Congratulations to Isaac for already having created such amazing clothes and for being so wonderful and down to earth too!
Our fashion students will show their first pieces of work at the Fresh on Wednesday. The project is based around the concept of ‘Trashion’ and you won’t believe what it’s possible to make from things that were going to be thrown away!
If you’re interested in joining our Fashion & Design course we have some limited spaces available to start this year. Apply here and start your creative journey with us.
