EVENTS MANAGEMENT COURSE OVERVIEW

EXAMPLE UNIT CONTENT: FUNDING FOR LIVE EVENTS, PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF PUBLICITY MATERIAL, PLANNING A LIVE EVENT

Through planning and delivering your own real-life events this course will give you the confidence and experience to succeed in an exciting and rewarding industry. The course tutors are active professionals whose inspiring projects regularly take the learning out the classroom and into the heart of the industry. Working in small class sizes creates the perfect atmosphere for developing ideas, and allows each student to explore a variety of roles.
 
Whether you’re interested in promoting your favourite band, working at festivals, putting on stand-up comedy, or see a future in tour management, you will gain the key knowledge with which to build your stage for success. Training in Event Management will also give you a grounding in a range of management and business skills to help you succeed in your creative career.

What will i do?

• Conceive, plan, pitch, promote and manage a series of events
• Build essential knowledge in event production & promotion, advertising, digital marketing, health & safety, security, licensing, funding your events, and tour management
• Previous projects have included delivering a programme of events for Brighton Fringe Festival 2016 and The Alternative Great Escape 2017
• Explore a variety of roles in the events industry
• Learn how to run a balanced budget for your event including raising money through ticket sales and crowdfunding
• Deliver a range of events
in collaboration with other students including gigs, club nights, fashion shows and film screenings
• Work independently on real- life project briefs for clients at a variety of venues


HOW LEVEL 2 AT DV8 WORKS

Our primary intentions for young people on Level 2 studies are:

a) Securing GCSE grade 4 or above in English and/or Maths
b) Achievement of a meaningful vocational Level 2 qualification
c) Excellent preparation for progression to Level 3
To this end, from September 2020, Dv8 will deliver Level 2 vocational programmes over (up to) two academic years

Year 1

  • Learners will study a Level 2 Extended Certificate in their vocational area alongside relevant English and/or Maths qualifications (working towards Grade 4 in GCSE)
  • Learners who achieve their GCSE at grade 4 or above (or equivalent) in Year 1 will gain immediate progression to Level 3

Year 2

  • Learners who require another retake English and/or Maths qualifications will go onto a second year of Level 2 vocational studies, working to a higher vocational award of Level 2 Diploma
  • Progression to Level 3 will be targeted with the learner and agreed based on English/Maths outcomes and attainment in the vocational area

at level 2 i will:

• Achieve AIM Awards Level 2 Certificate in Live Events and Promotions
• Plan and deliver a variety of events working in a team
• Explore various roles in the events industry through networking and making contacts
Progress to Level 3
• A previous Level 1 qualification and/or GCSE Grades 2-3, subject to interview


HOW LEVEL 3 AT DV8 WORKS

Our primary intentions for young people on Level 3 studies are:

a) Developing meaningful vocational skills based on early stage career progressions goals
b) Year 1 is for the completion of a Subsidiary Diploma with a review to going on to a 2nd year of a full Extended Diploma
c) To secure between 48 & 144 UCAS tariff points as part of Higher Education progression options

at level 3 i will:

• Achieve AIM Awards Level 3 Diploma in Live Events and Promotions
• Plan and deliver a range of events
• Complete a Relevant work experience placement
• Gain a professional portfolio of contacts
• Progress to university level courses (depending on prior attainment) or seek a career in the events industry including marketing, production and tour management
• 4 GCSEs A* – C or relevant Level 2 in Media and portfolio 
• English and Maths at GCSE grade 4 or above
