Today, my class took a visit to a Worthing museum. We were shown the archives with the curator and we were fortunate to be shown all the beautiful designs that survived through history until now – the earliest being 1750.

During the discussion around the historical outfits, we were apprised about the facts connected to the garments. Some were fascinating whilst others were pretty aberrant. Overall, it was fascinating to be informed about how people’s behaviour around how outfits should appear changed with such a quick pace during the timeline and how different it is today.

I felt this was a fortuitous opportunity to get educated about our chosen era that we’re studying. Although my era wasn’t commonly featured in the archives, it was nice to see that other designers during later periods were inspired by Ancient Egypt. It was helpful in making me feel inspired for my future designs.

After the visit to the archives, we nosed around the rest of the museum and found the displayed outfits on the mannequins. It was a generally interesting visit and we gained a lot of knowledge in fashion that would sure be useful later in life.
