Part of the Last Dance: Re-imagined Future Series

Throughout May, Lighthouse hosted a series of events called Last Dance: Re-imagined Futures with a full programme of free talks, workshops and events exploring the future of culture and arts. The roster of events featured independent figures who have contributed to the cultural landscape both locally and beyond, including musicians, DJs, record label owners, radio presenters, magazine publishers and many more who stand at the forefront of the creative industries.

On Thursday 17th May, Dv8 Sussex took over the beautiful and contemporary art space that is Lighthouse. We handed over the reins to our students to showcase their talent and creativity.

Displayed along the walls were the Media students’ individual photo project boards each showcasing a collection of images that tells a unique story. Down in the basement the Media Production students had projected on the wall a 40 minute showcase featuring all of their short films and documentaries that they’ve been working on for the past few months.

The Fashion students had their ‘trashion’ collection displayed on mannequins which was a project where they upcycled materials into beautiful pieces of Fashion. Their portfolio books were also on display for guests to view their concepts, research and mood boards.

Adding to the artistic vibe, we had music students live performing on the decks DJing everything from funk and soul to dance tracks in the front of house space. We also set up laptops with headphones ready for guests to listen to a compilation of songs produced by our future musicians

We hope this blog gives a small insight into our takeover and flavour into what Dv8 Sussex is all about. We wanted to thank Lighthouse for inviting us to be a part of their fantastic series of events. We hope everyone that came along found our showcase thought provoking and inspiring.

We’d further like to congratulate our Music Production student Oliver for taking a leading role in the planning, organisation and running of the the showcase.

For any young people that would like to get involved with any of courses, we’ve got limited spaces available in Brighton and Bexhill, you can apply today and start in September!
