Ben Carnet edited

Ben Carnet excelled at our Level 2 Media Production course. After completing and passing the course Ben signed up with us for an Apprenticeship and within two days he was offered a job with The Latest TV. We had a chat with Ben about his time at Dv8 and how he’s getting on in his new job role.

Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Ben Carnet and I’m 19 years old. Last year I studied Level 2 Media Production at Dv8 Sussex and now I’m currently taking their Advanced Level 3 Social Media & Digital Marketing Apprenticeship with The Latest TV. Some of my interests include watching films and gaming. I also have a deep passion for video editing.

Why did you want to study Media Production at Dv8?
The reason I chose to study at Dv8 was to gain the knowledge and skills to move onto the Apprenticeship scheme and make my way into the world of media.

Have you enjoyed the course and what have you got out of it?
It was without a doubt the best year of education I have ever had and I took away so much more than any A-level could have given me. My confidence is boosted, my knowledge of the media and business world has expanded, and I’ve networked and connected with various companies. My favourite part of the course was the enterprise project because it showed me my best and worst attributes and allowed me to hone the skills that need the most attention.

Why did you want to progress onto a Social Media & Digital Marketing Apprenticeship?
I wanted to progress onto an Apprenticeship because I felt I would learn more in a working and practical environment than in a classroom. Unlike the tutors at Dv8, most colleges don’t have teachers that have enough experience in the industry and only know what a textbook can teach them.

How are you finding your first couple of weeks at The Latest?
When I first started working at The Latest I was doing a little bit of everything as they were still working out exactly where I fitted in to the company. But now going into my fourth week I am on a more permanent station. For example I work with the sports team every Saturday at the Amex stadium (First day there I got to view the game from the press box which was amazing), and I am now being given editorial responsibilities which I am very excited about.

What do you hope to get out of the Apprenticeship?
By the end of the Apprenticeship I hope to have the knowledge, skills, and most of all the experience to go anywhere with confidence and experience various aspects of the media industry.

Where do you see yourself in ten years time?
I have no idea to be honest. I want to experience a wide range of roles in the media industry. One thing for sure is that I probably will still be working in Brighton, it’s my home town and I don’t intend on leaving.
